In perhaps the most exciting celebrity engagement of the year, Benny Blanco yesterday presented long time love Selena Gomez with a stunning marquise shaped diamond engagement ring, with a center stone estimated between 5-8 carats valued at $250,000 to $500,000.
The unique diamond shape dates back to 18th century France, when King Louis XV commissioned a jeweler to create a diamond resembling the lips of his mistress.

“When a marquise cut is done right, the results are breathtaking,” shares Ritani COO Ria Papasifakis. “We’ve already seen searches for marquise diamonds skyrocket to over 200% on Ritani.com since news of Selena’s ring broke. She is for sure putting the marquise shape on the map for a new generation of consumers.”
Other celebrities who have a marquise diamond engagement ring include Catherine Zeta-Jones, who was presented with a bold ten-carat east-west marquise diamond from Michael Douglas on New Year’s Eve 1999. David Beckham proposed to Victoria with a three-carat marquise set in yellow gold, the first of her now 15 engagement rings. And let’s not forget about The Lesotho III, the 40-carat marquise ring Aristotle Onassis (back in popular culture as of late) gave his betrothed Jacqueline Kennedy in 1968.

“We’ve actually seen growing interest in the marquise shape this year, not just with engagement rings and wedding bands but every day looks like diamond studs and huggies,” notes Papasifakis.
For those considering a marquise diamond engagement ring, the experts at Ritani recommend a center stone of about 2.5 carats to let the shape really shine. And it’s worth mentioning that the marquise also creates the appearance of a longer, slender finger. Selena’s ring is a solitaire with a diamond band set in yellow gold, however adding side stones to a marquise creates a stunning look as well.
