Shape
Oval cut diamonds have a sparkling, brilliant facet pattern and an elongated silhouette. Developed by Lazare Kaplan in the 1960s, the oval cut diamond is a hybrid of the round brilliant and marquise shapes. 3.2% of all Ritani diamonds sold are oval cut. They are a stunning choice for those who love sparkle but are looking for a slightly more unusual style.
Oval diamonds have become increasingly popular in recent years for engagement rings. Stars who have worn the oval cut diamond include Blake Lively and Hailey Bieber.
Oval diamonds are also a great choice for custom jewelry, such as pendants and earrings. There are some benefits to oval diamonds: they create the appearance of a longer, slimmer finger when worn in an engagement ring, and they also appear bigger than they really are due to their larger surface area. To make your oval diamond appear larger, choose a halo setting. Or let your oval diamond stand out in a solitaire setting.
Oval diamonds will come in varying length to width ratios. They tend to look the most appealing between 1.30-1.50. An oval with a length to width ratio of 1.30 will appear rounder, while an oval with a length to width ratio of 1.50 will appear more slender and elongated.
Ring Style
Derived from vintage rings, halo engagement rings are one of the most popular setting styles at Ritani. One of the most famous halo engagement rings of all time is Kate Middleton's engagement ring, a blue oval-shaped sapphire with a diamond halo. Currently, oval halo engagement rings are trending. Halo engagement ring settings are a great way to add more sparkle to your emerald-cut or Asscher-cut diamond. These diamond shapes don't sparkle much, so a diamond halo will add extra radiance. For extra sparkle, choose a double halo engagement ring.
Metal
White Gold is the most popular choice for engagement rings. It is made by mixing gold with other alloys such as nickel, palladium or silver to give it it's white color. It is available in varying proportions of gold which is measured in karats. 18K white gold is composed of 75% gold and 25% alloy, while 14K white gold has only about 58% gold and is therefore cheaper.
Although white gold is called white, it has a slight yellowish or off white color. Therefore it is coated with rhodium which has a reflective bright white color. Additionally, rhodium is much harder than white gold and will therefore make your ring more scratch resistant. If your white gold ring starts looking slightly yellow, it may be a sign that the rhodium plating is wearing off. But fear not, at Ritani we've got you covered. Just send us in your ring and we'll do the plating free of charge.
