Shape
Pear-shaped diamonds, also known as teardrop diamonds, deliver stunning sparkle in a unique shape. With a brilliant, 58-facet pattern, distinctive curves, and single point, the pear is a hybrid of the round and marquise styles. This elongated diamond shape tends to look larger than it actually is.
With pear-shaped diamonds making up 2.2% of all Ritani diamonds sold, they are an unusual and eye-catching shape. Typically worn with the point facing down the finger – away from the hand – they have a flattering, elongating effect.
Pear-shaped diamonds are also a popular choice for custom jewelry, such as earrings and pendants.
If you would like to make your pear-shaped diamond appear larger, opt for a halo setting. A halo setting will also provide more sparkle. Or let this unique diamond shape stand out on its own with a solitaire setting.
The pointed tip on a pear-shaped diamond makes it prone to chipping. Purchase a setting that will protect the tip of the stone.
Ring Style
Sidestone engagement rings are one of the most popular setting styles at Ritani. This style features feature smaller diamonds in the band for added artistry and sparkle. Sidestone engagement rings pair beautifully with all diamond shapes, but look especially stunning with emerald-cut diamonds or Asscher-cut diamonds. These step-cut diamond-shapes don't sparkle much, so a diamond sidestone setting will add more sparkle to the ring. There are many different ways in which diamonds can be set into the band of an engagement ring, each creating a different look. French-set diamonds are diamonds that are raised, allowing extra light to enter the stone, and are set with tiny beads of metal. Pavé diamonds look like they are paved into the band and are set with tiny points of metal. Micropavé diamonds are set the same way, but with smaller clusters of diamonds set closer together. Channel-set diamonds are the most secure - they are held within a metal channel.
Metal
White Gold is the most popular choice for engagement rings. It is made by mixing gold with other alloys such as nickel, palladium or silver to give it it's white color. It is available in varying proportions of gold which is measured in karats. 18K white gold is composed of 75% gold and 25% alloy, while 14K white gold has only about 58% gold and is therefore cheaper.
Although white gold is called white, it has a slight yellowish or off white color. Therefore it is coated with rhodium which has a reflective bright white color. Additionally, rhodium is much harder than white gold and will therefore make your ring more scratch resistant. If your white gold ring starts looking slightly yellow, it may be a sign that the rhodium plating is wearing off. But fear not, at Ritani we've got you covered. Just send us in your ring and we'll do the plating free of charge.
