These step-cut diamond-shapes don't sparkle much, so a diamond sidestone setting will add more sparkle to the ring. There are many different ways in which diamonds can be set into the band of an engagement ring, each creating a different look. French-set diamonds are diamonds that are raised, allowing extra light to enter the stone, and are set with tiny beads of metal. Pavé diamonds look like they are paved into the band and are set with tiny points of metal. Micropavé diamonds are set the same way, but with smaller clusters of diamonds set closer together. Channel-set diamonds are the most secure - they are held within a metal channel.

Yellow Gold is a very popular choice for engagement rings. It works particularly well with fancy yellow diamonds or diamonds with a low color grade. The yellow metal will complement a yellow diamond very nicely and will mask the sometimes undesirable hue of a low color diamond.
Although yellow gold looks yellow like the color of gold, it is usually mixed with other alloys such as copper and silver, since pure gold is very soft and easily bent or scratched. The purity of gold is measured in karats. 24K (karat) yellow gold is 100% gold, while 18K yellow gold is only 75% gold.
